Gas Monitors are needed for on-site safety and passive protection for a whole range of work sites, though the most obvious being any sort of confined space work or manhole entry. There are a wealth of options out there, from budget single-gas monitors to all singing, all dancing, industrial multi-gas detectors.

Here we offer gas sniffers from RAE Systems and BW Technologies by Honeywell; each brand offers the full spectrum of models for any budget.

Single Gas Detectors are smaller, more reliable and long lasting. There are disposable options such as the GasAlertClip Extreme range which can last up to three years and are self-calibrating, or RAE Systems offer the ToxiRAE II and III ranges, with replaceable batteries and on off functionality, so you can decide when are where you need to use them. Another option for a single-gas monitor offers more flexibility: the ToxiRAE Pro Series. These clever single-gas monitors keep the calibration details for each type of gas sensor used. This enables the ToxiRAE Pro to test for one type of gas one day, switch sensors (even in the field) and test for another gas without having to recalibrate or even interface with the device.

Multi-Gas detectors usually detect and alert for four dangerous and common gasses as standard (H2S, O2, CO and Combustible Gases). The QRAE II and GasAlertMax XT II both have internal pumps for the sampling of remote atmosphere. While the Quattro, MicroClip and one version of the QRAE II all operate on diffusion mode, for longer battery life and passive protection.

There are also the more industrial MultiRAE and EntryRAE devices, which alongside the four standard gas sensors feature a Photo Ionization Detector (PID) for detection of a wide range of potentially volatile organic compounds.

Whatever your line of work and your confined space of choice (sewer work, oil rig, gas, merchant navy or refinery engineering) should you be in danger of exposure to potentially toxic gases, a multi gas-monitor can keep you and your team safe and up to spec.
